People and Projects: Spinning in Circles

Barb's Blurbs Spinning in Circles

This past weekend, I volunteered at a non-profit event and the person hosting the event told me they felt like this.

Kephart, B. (2017). Abstract leaves.
Kephart, B. (2017). Abstract leaves.

Constantly spinning and bouncing from one idea to the next, they had a million tasks to manage but couldn’t process them all. Throughout the evening, they began to trust in my ability to help sort through their overwhelming list of tasks.

In the end, the event went off without a hitch.

Afterwards, as we sat together relaxing, they mentioned that having someone like me in their corner—organized, calm, and focused on the task at hand, yet not internal to the non-profit—really helped them stay focused and keep moving forward during the event. Otherwise, they would have lost direction and start to spin again.

They also expressed appreciation for my skill to be able to predict what needed to be done before they did.

How to Prevent Spinning

Consider using a trusted third-party organizer. They don’t have to take full control, but can assist with vetting, troubleshooting, or getting something done before you even realize it has to be done.

As I mentioned in my past post What is a Project?, something new within a company starts as a project then needs to be operationalized. The person had hosted this non-profit event for years, yet it still required optimization and iteration from a third-party set of eyes, one that doesn’t get dizzy.

Don’t Have a Trusted Organizer? We Can Help

We recently launched our Pick Our PM Brain Sessions for Executives, where we work together to create straight-up, real-world solutions for your projects without any sugarcoating or fluff. Just getting stuff done.

We’ve been asked if these sessions can be held on a recurring monthly basis to keep company projects moving forward nicely. We said yes!

With a trusted organizer by your side each month, you can stay grounded and not spin out of control.

It’s all about who you have in your corner.
